The Office of Academic Standards’ Science team is excited to announce that the 2023 K-12 Science Standards were approved by the State Board of Education at their July 6th, 2023 meeting. The following documents are available now.

**Please note, the current 2009 Science standards will remain in place for classroom instruction and assessment for the 2023-2024 school year**
The NCDPI Office of Exceptional Children also received approval from the State Board of Education on July 6th, 2023 for the adoption of new Extended Content Science Standards. More information regarding those standards can be found by clicking on the link below. Please contact Matthew Martinez (matthew.martinez@dpi.nc.gov) for further information.
The K-12 Science Team's purpose is to support teachers with the North Carolina Science Essential Standards. The current state content standards were approved by the North Carolina State Board of Education in 2010, with required implementation for schools in 2012. The work of the K-12 Science Team includes: academic standards; support documents and professional learning.
